CULTURE & HERITAGE The Inn at Woodhall Spa

The Inn at Woodhall Spa is in a small village located in Lincolnshire, packed with character and charm. Visit the boutiques and shops on the tree-lined high street or take in the Dambusters Memorial or the delightful Tattershall Castle. The area is draped in culture and offers tourists a chance to experience something a little unique.

Dambusters

Located just a short walk from the Inn at Woodhall Spa the village is at the heart of what is often referred to as 'Bomber' County. By 1945, the RAF and USAAF had 49 operational airfields in the county of Lincolnshire, with Lancaster bombers based at half of them. The majority of these bases have disappeared, but several have become aviation heritage centres or sites for Squadron memorials, including 617 Squadron (the Dambusters), which operated from RAF Woodhall Spa between January 1944 and May 1945.

Tattershall Castle

Also nearby, Tattershall Castle is one of the oldest complete buildings owned by the National Trust. The castle includes an extension built in 1434-5 for Ralph Cromwell who served with King Henry V at Agincourt and was one of the most powerful men in medieval England. On a clear day, Boston Stump and Lincoln Cathedral can be seen from the top of the castle.

Lincoln

The city of Lincoln is 18 miles away  from the Inn at Woodhall Spa and offers a range of attractions, from Roman remains and historical sites to boat trips on the Fossdyke. Take a stroll around Lincoln's handsome Cathedral Quarter and you will pass many tourist attractions and old medieval buildings, many of which are clustered around Steep Hill and the Bailgate.
